how to travel?

What is the best budget travel around oz? Which bus company to use etc?

Claire,
I think there are 2 main bus companies, McCaffertys and Greyline. The Lonely Planet Australia book has heaps of info on them, including the different bus passes. Pop into a book shop and have a look or try the LP website.
Kay

There are also a couple of bus lines aimed particularly at the back packer market. Lonely Planet should have details of these.

I used the Oz Experience, and I found this quite good as I was a lone traveller, therefore met loads of people, and saw places I probably wouldn't have otherwise. However, it might be worht waiting until you get there, if you have the flexibility, as it was definitely much cheaper on the Greyhound, etc. It really just depends on what your priority is: convenience, door to door, meeting other people, getting off the beaten track a bit - the I'd probably say Oz Experience, if it's cheapness, then Greyhound, I'd guess....

If I can be of any more help, please feel free to email me direct - I don't check the board terribly often.

Jenny
