how long is the day in summertime?

may we know what time will it get dark in december in Victoria/South Australia? Is driving safe when it get dark? Are the roads with/without road lights?

Thanks,

TL

In December daylight saving will have kicked in (it starts the end of Oct)so this will give you an extra hour of daylight. It will get dark about 9pm. South Australia is also 30 minutes behind Victoria.
All street and roads have street lights, however if you are travelling on country roads they won't. Dusk is when you could find kangaroos on some country roads. Some people think it is a dangerous time to travel as kangaroos are unpredictable and can jump back into the path of your headlights.

There is a great website that shows the daylight hours of everywhere in the world at all times. It is in a calendar format so you can print out the month of your holidays and see when the sun rises, sets, twilight, the moon and tides. Top stuff.
http://www.sunrisesunset.com
Thanks sc and Jenny!
Just one more question: is it easy to find our direction when heading to popular places (eg Ballarat, Grampians etc) and towns (port fairy, Goolwa etc)? are there sufficient road signs?

Thanks again!

TL

if you're travelling from Melbourne to places like ballarat, Port Fairy the roads are all fairly major highways (particularly ballarat where it's a freeway nearly all the way). I assume you're renting a car so make sure you ask for the rental company to include a Melways directory (its the best for both metro and country areas). The roads are well signposted, but for instance if going from Melbourne to Port Fairy they won't be signposted "Port Fairy" until you get quite close. I hope this makes sense.
