Hotels Sydney-need advice!

My husband and I are traveling to Sydney is mid February for the first time and are getting conflicting ideas on where to stay!! We are only there for 3 nights so we would like to stay in a central location with some ammenities. Would like to stay below A$300...any help would be greatly appreciated! This is once in a lifetime and we really want it to be GREAT!!!

Tara, the range of hotels in the Sydney CBD now is endless and if you were to do a search in any of the major chains i.e Hilton, Westin, Radisson, Novotel you will find many choices. The Darling Harbour area of the city is very popular and is within walking distance of most of the city.
Enjoy your stay.

We were in Sydney a few weeks ago for about 5 days. We stayed at the Old Sydney at the Rocks - there couldn't be a better location and the hotel staff was great. We thought the Rocks is a much more convenient location than Darling Harbor -

Hi....I operate tours up to the Hunter Valley wineries but did a hotel inspection the other day at The Castlereagh Inn 1800 801 576 www.caslereaghinn.com.au)...they have a special $99 deal to 28 Feb. Great rooms if you ask for renovated one and ask for an upgrade! In middle of CBD. With the money you save you can jump on my tour at http://www.visitours.com.au
Cheers

We stayed 5 nights at the Westin in Sydney for $240A per night. A modern, new hotel centrally located (walk to rocks about 10 minutes) We would go back there again. Suggest doing a search on this forum on Sydney hotels for other suggestions.

laurie

Hi Tara:
We were in Sydney mid Nov. and stayed at the Hotel Intercontinental. It was beautiful and about 1/2 block from Circular Quay. Great location and paid only $A177.50 (special discounted rate by booking last minute at the airport). Shirley

I was glad to here that you liked the Intercontinenal in Sydney. We just booked a repeat of last years cruise on the Legend of the Seas with two extra days before the cruise in Sydney. I researched the hotels and found that the Intercontinental looked about right. We had a friend in Sydney check on it and he agreed. But it is nice to get a first hand report. We did not get the rate that you obtained since we booked ahead of time. They do have specials that run on Monday each week on their website for the following weekend and I will watch them closely before we leave. I can always cancel one reservation and book the special. Just didn't want to get caught without a hotel. Toto

To add to Anne's post. The hotel in The Rocks is Old Sydney Holiday Inn, check Holiday Inn website for details.

hi tara,
just back from my trip. we stayed at the harbour rocks hotel in the rocks area. had to say it was in a fantastic location (we had a family room for A$205). we went ferry hopping a lot and the hotel is 5 min. walk to the circular quay and another 5 minutes to the opera house. you can also take the ferry to darling harbour and walk back (about 1/2 hour walk) if you'd like.
e-mail with any questions.
tina
