hotels, motels, B&Bs, farmstays - recommendations?

Anyone have any recommendations for accomodations for NZ? Areas I'm going to are Rotorua, Waitomo Caves, Queenstown, Blenheim, Nelson, the glaciers and Christchurch. I'm especially interested in farmstays with sheep. Anything less than US$100 would be great. Thanks!

Hi Evelyn,
We're not going to New Zealand until November, so I don't have any that I can recommend yet. But I did get a book "The New Zealand Bed and Breakfast Book" which lists homestays, farmstays, b&b's. I've found it to be really useful. I bought mine at Barnes & Noble. It's a huge book with many listings.
Good luck!

We stayed in B&Bs throughout NZ and didn't have a bad experience. They were all less than 100 USD and usually by a lot. In Rotorua, we stayed at Waiteti Lakeside Lodge which was excellent the web site is www.waitetilodge.co.nz I think we paid about$85 a night and it was the most expensive B&B we stayed in. In Christchurch we stayed at the Turret House which was also lovely--and walking distance to CBD. (that room was about $50 USD) Their web site is turrethouse.co.nz All the B&Bs were clean and well outfitted. We throughly enjoyed talking and visiting with the hosts. I wouldn't consider a hotel or motel after the experience we had. I booked most of the lodging over the internet. Most places take MC or Visa too which is nice. Have a great trip.

We stayed at Peppertree Farm -- they have a web site -- in Rotorua. We had a WONDERFUL time! Stayed right in the house. They knew that we'd have grandchildren with us, so invited their 8 yr. old grandson to visit and show ours the animals. They have sheep, horses, etc.

Thanks for your recommendations. Sounds like B&Bs are pretty affordable.

Had a great time in NZ last fall. In Queenstown, I would highly recommend Brown's Boutique Hotel - 26 Isle St. Phone: 64- 3-441-2050. Lovely rooms with a great view of the lake. Also stayed in and enjoyed Queenstown House, which was a B&B. 69 Hallenstein St. Phone: 64-3-442-9043. A bit of a hike up a hill to the B&B from the main part of town, though. Have fun!
