Hi, bobandvee,
Haven't stayed in hotels in Queenstown but suggest you look at www.qualmark.co.nz or www.aatravel.co.nz - 3 and a half stars plus are considered fine.
Good luck. We've had the most awesome temperatures today - much of the South Island in late 20 degrees Celsius!

Hi

When we stayed in Queenstown we stayed at Hurleys. It's really a great place, hotel rooms and 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. Hurleys looks out on the Remarkables and has a beautiful view.

We had a great time there.

I stayed at the Rydges in Queenstown and it was great. Def under 200 a night, right near town, about a 5-10 min. walk to all the restaurants and shops. I took a photo from my room that subsequently everyone that's seen it thought it was a postcard! Beautiful lake and mountains right outside my window.

for the Rydges, was it close into town, a walk, drive or what; we love to stroll for breakfast etc and NOT get into our car, if don't need to
thanks

Do some research before you book Rydges. I looked it up on TripAdvisor.com and a lot of people have posted poor feedback for it :( Must depend on which room you get --

No need for a car at the Rydges. About a 5 minute walk into town. I have no major complaints about the hotel,it seemed fine to me.

We stayed at the Rydges and loved it.
Our room overlooked Lake Wakitipu and the Remarkables mountain range. Absolutely breathtaking.
Our first stay was for three days in November and our second for ten days the following October.
The staff was most accommodating. The rooms a bit jaded but very clean.
We intend to book the Rydges on our next visit and would recommend it without hesitation.

I am glad you recommend it so highly. It is just hard to understand how so many other people had poor experiences at the same place. I don't know if some rooms are nicer than others or if they had their expectations too high... It's always interesting when a property gets very mixed feedback.

Thank you all very much for your help. We are thinking about the Outrigger at the Beacon, a friend of a friend stayed there and loved it, and i can get a 2 bedroom suite for 253NZ. anyone with experience there? Thanks again for all of your help
