Hotel or motel in Christchurch for one night

We will be spending a night in Christchurch on February 6th before heading south to Tekapo for a wedding. Flying into Christchurch on the 6th. My Fodors guide book is pre-earthquqke!

Can anyone recommend a hotel or motel for about 150 NZD. We will have a car, and want to see a little of Christchurch.

Hi Peter,

not sure if this is what you would want but we stayed in a motel near the airport, principally because we had a very early start the next morning. We checked in at about 12 noon, and were in the centre of C/Church by 1pm. We had a nice walk round Parking is a bit of a bugger; lots of bomb-site type parking lots, which are pretty cheap, but they all look the same and we stupidly didn't make a good enough note of where we were parked so it took us an hour of increasingly acrimonious walking around to find the car!

if you're interested, I'll look up the name of the place we stayed. it was clean and quiet and right next to a winery which usually opened for dinner which the motel hosts said was very good, but on the night we were there, it was shut, so we went to another place on the main road which was pretty dire.

if you wanted to spend the afternoon and evening in C/Church I'm sure that there are many more places closer in.

Merivale Manor, Roma on Riccarton, or just about any motel on Riccarton

We stayed at the Annabelle Court on Riccarton Rd in September. We've also stayed at the Papanui Court, which is also on the way out from the airport to Queenstown the next day. Both were comfortable, clean and economical.
If you want to spend time in the city you might want to be closer in but Christchurch is pretty small by city standards. We like being at Riccarton because it gives you a head start on the drive south.
