hotel near cairns airport
 

I appreciate all the info I've been reading in planning my trip to Australia. My last night we arrive in Cairns around 5 pm and have 6 am flight out the next morning. I'm looking for a convenient hotel to the airport. I don't like dumps but don't need a palace. Any suggestions ?

We liked the Heritage Cairns-check out wotif.com.au for rates. We stayed in Jan 2003 and it was a very comfy 4 star. The airport is close to the city (7kms). I'd book a taxi the night you arrive for pickup at 4.45 am the next day. You can walk into the city 5-10 mins & check out the Reef casino-they do good value steaks, seafood etc.

I have often stayed at the Coral Cay Villas, they are 'unit/studios', very bright and clean and it's convenient on Lake Street, you can walk into town but it's also easy for the airport, they charge something like AUD 80-90 for a room which is very roughly US$58-60.

TIP: When you get your cab from the airport to your accommodation ask the driver to book your pick-up in the morning, he'll have them punch it into the computer for you.

bernovato, We stayed recently at Lilybank B&B in the north end of Cairns where the airport is. Pat Woolford a frequent contributor to this site does a great job. You are also 5 min walk from the wonderful Garden Room Restaurant.

I stayed at Lilybank this spring, and it's wonderful and close to the airport. The only reason I would hesitate recommending it for such a short stay is that you will be KICKING yourself for not staying longer. You won't even get to experience the wonderful breakfast there by leaving that early! It is VERY close to the airport.
