Hong Kong Hotels
 

I will be in Hohg Kong for a few days in October.Any good hotels in the $150 category? The "Asia crisis" is not reflected in hotel prices as far as I can tell.Thank you all.

We stayed in the Holiday Inn Golden Mile hotel about 10 years ago and it was quite nice. At present we are using Lonely Planet guide book for descriptions. I note on this bulletin board a mention of the YMCA in Kowloon, and it sounds nice. <BR> WE will be going to HK in Jan.'99 so I would appreciate any suggestions after you return.

We stayed at the New World hotel in Kowloon. It's right on the harbor, a 5-minute walk from the Star Ferry, along a promenade with a beautiful view of Hong Kong island, close to good shopping in Kowloon, and very nice rooms. I'm not sure if the price fits your requirement (our room was book by our travel agent, and the rates were buried in the package), but it would be worth checking into. <BR>Hope this helps.

Daniela - October is a low season for travelling here, so many hotel will have a promotion price here. you can have many option with budget of US$100.

I stayed at the New World (price also buried) but it was a great location and Hotel.

My advice would be to pick a 4 - 5 star hotel in a district that you are going to spend time in and then CALL them direct to negotiate a price - there is doubt that today you could negotiate most hotels in HK to the rate you are talking about. The New World is a fine hotel although the rooms can tend to be smallish, the Excelsior is another fine hotel right in the middle of the shopping district on the island, the Marriott is probably one of the best on the island but may be on the high side of your budget and there are numberous in Kowloon. Don't be afraid to negotiate a number of hotels are struggling and will try very hard to get your business.

The Peninsula Hotel in Kowloon is top drawer. The <BR>prices might be reduced in this crisis time as well. <BR>At least walk through it and have "a spot of tea" <BR>in the lobby during the afternoon. Enchanting!

This is a wonderful time to travel to Hong Kong, both for price and weather. Depending on the airline you are travelling both United and Cathay Pacifc have hotel in the Kowloon area starting from 75.00 per person per night. As two previous trveller have said the New World is a great hotel and good location. Omni also has three hotels on the harbour front, who are offering fall packs with sightseeing. If you are looking for good budget accommodation, the YMCA has priavate rooms with bath and shower. It is located 5 mins from the Star Ferry and in the downtown water front area of Kowloon. The YMCA at Salisbury Road is right next to the Peninsula Hotel and is excellent value for money. For about $150 you can get a corner suite with separate living room and bedroom. Ask for one with harbour view and you'll get awesome floor to ceiling windows. Check out their website at www.ymcahk.org. I have stayed there twice and would go back again. <BR>

Hi, We are all set to go to Hong Kong and Macau the 22 of Sept. I am amazed that no one has suggested hotel consolidators as their prices seem to be the best. Way better than contacting the hotel directly. We booked with Aero, who has a web site. Another company is anytours also on the web. Check them out. We booked the Prudential in Kowloon and the Royal in Macau, both good values in my estimation. Aero takes credit cards. Have fun. e mail me it you want to know more after we return Oct 1st.
