Honeymoon Help

We will be traveling to the Bora Bora area this year for our honeymoon. I would like to know where to stay on the islands in terms of hotels and local restaurants. We are beach people and are not into too much night life. We wanted to stay in an over the water bungalo, but there has not been too much positive said about them. Can someone comment if you have stayed. We will have about 12-14 days for the trip. We have a pretty big budget as we are not having a wedding, and would like to make this the trip of a lifetime. Please help if you have experience in this area. We have spent quite a bit of time in the Carribean (turks, anguilla, nevis, jamaica, bahamas) and are looking for the best polynesian island experience. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi claibornel,
If you have a big budget, the sky is pretty much the limit...Do you want luxury hotels only? If you're not into nightlife, French Polynesia is the place for you! I don't know what reviews you read, but the owb (overwater bungalows) are excellent. There are lots of high end hotels with exquisite owb on Bora Bora, such as the Thalasso, BB Pearl and the newly opened Four Seasons.

You could splurge on the island of Taha'a at Le Taha's resort (www.pearlresorts.com). That would most likely be THE hightlight. The location and accommodations are stunning, with views of Bora Bora on the horizon. Less luxurious, but very nice, romantic and intimate is Vahine Island Resort (www.vahine-island.com) situated on a motu (little island) in the lagoon of Taha'a.

You should also consider staying on Moorea. It's a stunning island. The Hilton Lagoon and Spa (changed recently from being the Sheraton) has an excellent location, nice beach and one of the best spot for snorkeling.

There are many many options. It's a fabulous place. We are going back this coming May and visiting the archipelago of the Tuamotu this time (Rangiroa and Fakarava), Bora Bora again (at the Pearl resort and small pension on a motu) and Moorea again (private villa).

Have fun planning!

On Bora Bora consider one of the three (of course you have to do overwater bungalo on Bora)

Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa
Four Season Bora Bora
Intercontinental Thalasso

Moorea (beach or overwater bungalo)

Sofitel of Hilton

For Third Island YES, Le Taha as it's a short flight from Bora Bora or if you really want seclusion and a feel of traditional Polynesia then try Tikehau (Pearl Tikehau Resort)

Have fun planning.
