Hobart - Will everyhting be closed on Sunday?
Is it best to avoid the weekend for a visit to Hobart? We can do Sydney-Hobart-Perth-Sydney, or Sydney- Perth - Hobart - Sydney on our upcoming Oz trip. If we do Hobart first we are ther on Wed, Thurs and Fri, if we do Hobart after Perth we will be there Sat, Sun and Mon. Any suggestions/tips would be appreciated. Thanks

I would go to Hobart on the weekend so not to miss the Salamanca markets on the Sat. Also there are some excellant boats trips on the weekends as well as everything else available.

agree - don't miss salamanca if you can help it.
we went to moorilla winery, it was very nice. also you could do port arthur and if you get a chance do the ghost tour, it's great fun! |
My husband & I were there 2 weeks ago and I concur with the other posts - don't miss the Salamanca Market on Saturday. We didn't find things closed on Sunday.

Everything around Hobarts waterfront - the docks, Salamanca Place and Battery Point is open sundays. The city itself is mostly closed except for the major stores and a couple of shopping arcades, but then I can't imagine any reason you would wste time in that fairly ordinary part of town.
Allow a few hours for the market. Stallholders start setting up at 6am but its a nice place to sit outside for breakfast in one of the cafes on Salamanca. The market realy gets going around 10 and stalls begin to shut down at 3. After the market, summit of Mt Wellington is only 30 mins drive, or the botanical gradens on the edge of the city only 5 mins drive. They are 2 simple ways to use up what's left of the day if you stay in Salamanca until after lunch |
