Help with New Zealand itinerary
Hi! This post comes from India. I'm new to the Australia boards...although, i am a regular over on the Africa boards.
I'm looking for a 10 night trip to New Zealand. Dont want to shuttle around every other night. Can you recommend something for 2 or 3 stops max? Looking for nice sceneary, some shopping/arts, restaurants and whatever uniquely New Zealand. Thanks, Hari |
Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. NZ has lots of scenery and these are big cities. I'd say 5, 2 and 3 days. Fly in Auckland and out Christchurch.
With globalisation, I don't know that there is much that is "uniquely New Zealand". That would probably be found in smaller towns. |
Auckland is the last place I would send anyone who has a 10 night trip and wants uniquely NZ.
If you can fly directly to Christchurch, I would recommend Christchurch, Nelson, and Queenstown. Skip the NI entirely unless you must terminate your trip in Auckland. |
Thanks folks,
Any unique must-do's in the south island? in all the 3 mentioned locations? Thanks hari |
Christchurch: Arts Centre weekend market, Dux de Lux, Botanic Garden, Canterbury Museum Antarctic exhibit. Day trip to Akaroa, day trip to Arthur's Pass or Porter Pass. Mona Vale is beautiful in spring.
Nelson: arts and crafts shopping, seafood, day trips to Abel Tasman and wineries. Queenstown: Day trip to Milford Sound (fly one way if you can); Arrowtown, Kawarau River and wineries; Glenorchy; Jet boat ride, TSS Earnslaw and farm visit; get a hotel room with a lake view and enjoy the scenery; lots of good restaurants. You really can't go wrong with scenery no matter where you go. |
mlgb,
Thanks a lot for all the feedback....will revert after i try to get flight bookings. Appreciate all feedback. Hari |
Hari -
If you make it to Nelson, you might want to visit the Wearable Arts Complex - definitely unique. www.worldofwearableart.com/ |
