Help plan 30th birthday girls only trip to Australia!
 

Greetings all...

I was just given the task of planning my best friend's 30th birthday - *girls only* trip to Australia (October 2007 - she has always dreamed of Australia, and chose this as the destination).

There will be 8 of us (all in our late twenties, early 30s) all together. We have never been to Austrailia, so are open to all ideas. We are, however, limited in time to about 7-10 nights(this may be a big problem, since we're all flying out of nyc or philly).
My first thought is to fly into LAX, spend a night or two partying in LA, then head to Sydney for a little bit - - because I haven't done much planning for this part of the world. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'd skip the partying in LA unless you know that you are going to be in good shape to board your flight to Aust which then most likely will get into Sydney around 6am. A hangover at 30,000 feet may not be very memorable. Have fun

Friday and Saturday nights are especially busy in the Sydney CBD with office workers spilling out of pubs. Not my scene but some of the trendy bars are in the Darling Harbour and King St Wharf area. The Establishment is popular with the bankers and execs, Slip Inn is where you may be able to snare a real prince. Last one caught was the Crown Prince of Denmark about 6 years ago. The Victoria Room in Darlinghurst is popular with women. Places to be seen sipping coffee would be cafes in Double Bay and Woollhara, where you may be able to pick up a sugar-daddy or two if you are drop dead gorgeous. But if you are into better body shapes, hang out around Bondi Beach.

I place a 2nd vote for the Victoria Room and for Woollhara (sp?). You and your girlfriends will love both.

If you can spend 10 nights downunder, I would recommend in addition to spending time in Sydney, head up north to Queensland and spend a couple of days in the Great Barrier Reef, provided all the girls coming like the sun and water activities.

More than 5 nights in Sydney could be too much. However you can do day trips out of Sydney, say to the Blue Mountains to the west or country Bowral to the south.

October is a good time to come downunder - currently the days are warm and the nights are mild. The bars and clubs are starting to get busier approaching Xmas as people start to get more relaxed due to weather and upcoming summer break for most.

There are a wide array of bars and watering holes to visit, like the ones mentioned above - let's put it this way, none of you girls will be thirsty!! Also, there is also a good selection of restaurants.

I think you should work out your itinerary first, specifically on how much time you want to spend in Sydney and other places of interest, where you wish to stay, budget etc. I will then be able to assist with bars, restaurants, clubs etc.

Thanks so much for the great ideas/advice! I'm meeting up with my girlfriends next weekend in NYC (another one is hitting the big 30!:) - so I'll soon have a better idea of how many days we'll have and stuff for the planning process...

Forgot to add that my favourite market is Paddington Market (Saturdays only) and I like the shops along Oxford Street in Paddington.
