Help! How far is the Gold Coast from SYD?
I am planning a trip to Sydney and Melbourne next spring (autumn in Oz). I was wondering how far is the Gold Coast from Sydney. What's the best choice of transportation to the Gold Coast? Plane? Car? Train? Help! Please!

The Gold Coast is about 500 odd miles north of Sydney, on sometimes below average roads.
Best way to get there is to fly - the airport is Coolangatta, but I think only Qantas flies there. You could also fly to Brisbane (Can check Virgin for this), and get a bus down. There is a train option as well - probably best to Brisbane, but you can go to Murwillumbah and get a bus. It all depends on your time, money, interests, etc. |
Hi Pinkfloyd18,
This is a good aussie site for planning trips.Check it out www.travelmate.com.au Have fun Muck |
Fly. Virgin Blue and Qantas fly into Coolangatta, and you should be able to get a fare of about $90 each way (AUD)

Flying is quickest and cheapest but you'll be flying over some beautiful country that deserves a better look. If you've got the time, drive. Check out the Hunter Valley, Port Macquarie and Byron Bay, to name a few. If you're into trains, the train trip from Sydney to Murwillumbah is a good one. You can do it overnight if you wish.

Its about 900km, or about 10 hours driving time, before adding stops. The Pacific Hwy has improved a lot in the last few years and there's plenty to see on the way if you have a bit of time. If not, flights can be got dirt cheap outside school holiday time (usually 2 weeks around mid-April).
