Heli-hike verdict

Dear Guaranteed,

The money spent on our Fox Glacier heli-hike was TOTALLY worth it, every cent! We had a brilliantly beautiful morning: we could see Mt. Cook, Mt. Tasman and the glaciers from the helicopter launch pad. The heli flight was scenic, exciting and fun. Wee loved every moment of the hour and about 45 minutes that we hiked around on Fox. We saw crevases, caves, amazingly blue color, ice sculptures, etc. and our guides provided loads of interesting information. We had a small group (10) with two guides which was ideal and they paced our hike perfectly. Mrnola and I agreed that it was money well spent and it turned out to be one of our favorite activities in NZ. We would definitely do it again!

Cheers,

Nola

Totally agree with you. We were fortunate to have good weather also. The kids thought it the highlight of our South Island trip. Hubby and I thought the overnight Doubtful Sound trip rather special. We were also blessed with fantastic weather on that too !!

Which company did you use for Heli hiking? We are planning to that next week.
Did you stay in Fox or FJ?

Olemiss,

We stayed in Fox Glacier Village (at Ropatini's B & B, which was very nice) and there's only one guiding company there: Fox Glacier Guides. They were professional, courteous, all the good things. We didn't spend much time in Franz Josef, although we did the free hike to the terminal face and overlook. FJ town is much larger and busier than Fox Village. Our B & B hostess said, "Franz is a town while Fox is still a village" and we had to concur. We had two nights at Fox and really liked Plateau restaurant, I think that's what it was called--it's in the guidebook.

Have fun! The heli-hike was superb! We also loved Gillespie's Beach, Lake Matheson and walking around the rain forrest at the foot of Fox Glacier.

Absoutely delighted to here this!
I have been a long time New Zealand/Australian visitor
And have been burnt several times with expensive excursions.

I couldn't be happier that you had a great trip.

I apologize if my comments came on too strong.

Bottom line = you had a great trip, and I gave you a head's up.

Cheers, G

No worries, G. A "heads up" is all I ever ask for so I can then check it out for myself.

Lucky you to be a frequent NZ visitor. I know we will return but it won't probably be for a few years...

Ciao,

Nola
