Hayman Island Resort?
Looking for info from anyone who may have been there. Making plans for a September trip and am considering that property.
Thanks! |
Cathriona, my wife and I were just in Hayman and, to cut to the chase, definitely book it!! We had an incredible time. Luxury, beauty, serenity, fine food and wine, water sports and more. If you're up for spending some additional money, there are phenomenal daily sea plane and helicopter trips. We took the sea plane to our own reef and went snorkeling (lots of scuba too of course if you're certified), then onto a nearby island for a picnic lunch. Need I say more???! Have a wonderful time!

I will be staying at Hayman in July. Which restaurants do you like the best?Have a pool superior room. Do you know anything about these rooms?
|
I was there in October 2002 in a Palm Superior room. Large room with a huge bathroom, peek-a-boo view of the ocean through the gardens. The hotel was very accomodating in lowering my room rate when I found a less expensive rate on another website. I was very impressed with the staff and the hotel. The grounds are beautiful. We were there 4 days, 5 nights, had room service 2 nights because we didn't feel like dressing up for dinner. Order the rum raisin creme brulee, it's terrific! We had dinner one night at the Italian restaurant and went to Azure twice. We preferred the menu at Azure. Lunch service at the Hayman pool was spotty. Great one day, horrible the next. Be prepared for huge tidal variations on the beach. When the tide is out, the water is GONE. Head for the pool during low tide. Would recommend Hayman highly, have a great time!

We'll be at Hayman for five nights in August. I'm glad to read about some good experiences there. I also would love any advice on the island, though it would be expensive to change our plans at this point. One concern I have is that it might be a bit too chilly, both air temperature and water. But we don't have a choice about timing.
I also worry a little that five nights is too long --- will we get a bit of "island fever"? But we're locked into that now. Should we bring a lot of books to read in case things get a bit too peaceful? How dressed up do we have to get to eat at the more casual restaurants, like the Italian place? I'd like to get away with the least formal clothes we can, since I want to pack light and I like to relax while on vacation! Any clothing tips for Hayman appreciated. |
We stayed for 5 nights/5 days. We wouldn't say that it's too long -- seemed just about right as we were looking for a luxurious relaxing stay (with a much shorter stay you may regret not taking in the full Hayman experience). Best restaurants are Oriental (went twice) and the French restaurant (went once). All are casual except the French restaurant, although even they do not require a jacket (though I gather they used to). Would highly recommend requesting an outdoor table at Oriental in the beatiful Japanese garden.

We stayed in a Pool Deluxe suite room (complete w/ it's own swim dock). Room was very nice, although the Lagoon Wing rooms were more recently renovated and suites are larger. But not that there's anything wrong with the Pool rooms (for example, you can't swim off your balcony from the Lagoon Wing)! The largest pool is in front of the Pool rooms, while the Lagoon Rooms overlook a lagoon (although there is another pool there too).

Newlyweds:
I see that you are following a similar itinerary to me, having been to both Hayman and Silkly Oaks. Did you drive from Cairns to Silky Oaks, that is what we are planning and was wondering about he drive. My husband has driven in England ( I get really nervous) so I assume it is similar in that you drive on the left. Thanks for the tips on the restaurants. So my husband really doesn't need a jacket for the French restaurant? |
Thanks for all your posts!! (it took a while and I was sorta wonderin'...)
