guided walk in Tasmania
 

Can anyone make some suggestions please/ partner and I want to walk for about 10 days in Tasmania with a group and guide in Jan/Feb 2005 Who with? and Where? We love walking about 6 k a day with local history flora and fauna stops thrown in. HF hols in UK suit us fine with great company and superb guides. HF do one in Tas but it's too long for us.
We visit Oz alot having family there and will combine this trip with a visit to them. Any advice, help would be greatly appreciated - Anne

Anne, there are probably heaps of walks to do in Tasmania, but one that springs to mind, is the walk from Cradle Mountain Lodge, overland to Lake St.Clair. I think it is a 3 day walk.
Down in the South West Wilderness area, there are walks, which leave south of the town Southport, and finish somewhere near Port Davey. You would have go with a guide, as this area, is rugged and complete wilderness. I will try find some websites on Tassie Walks.

the walk tropo is referring to is the Overland Track, it's an 80km walk and most people do it in 5-8 days.
There are actually hundreds of walks in Tasmania.
If you are after something a bit less strenuous the walks around Freycinet are fantastic, or the Bay of Fires walk is good too.

Another good bet, but on the mainland is Wilsons Promenatory, which is similar in terrain (it used to be connected to Tasmania) but a bit milder weather !

I have heard that the Bay of Fires is an excellent walk. There is the Bay of Fires Lodge at one end. Even if you don't get to do that particular walk, make a point of driving, out to Binalong Bay. At the time of year, you can swim on this beach, also you can drive up from Binalong Bay to "The Gardens" which is near the Bay of Fires. The water is a beautiful blue colour, and the sand is white. The water temps at the time of the year will be around 19-20 degrees, not too bad at all. Which was approx. the water temperature in Hervey Bay, yesterday, when I had a swim.
