Griffith - Wine and Food
 

We are just back from two weeks outback.

We were most delighted with Griffith. Not only is it RV Friendly (we have a campervan) the wine and food are fantastic. We are generally not into wine as we find it overpriced for something that we usually find to be "OK".

Most bottles of wine are around $10-15 with some as low as $7 as standard price. The first wine I tried I thought this will be $20-25 No! $10.

At the moment De Bortolli are having a clean out with some wines that are normally $15 going for $2. Cases of clean skin Merlot for $36 etc.

The Wineries have banded together for October and for $2.50 you get a VIP card that gives you 20% off at the 10 wineries on the card. If you visit five or more you go in the draw for a mixed dozen.

I know this sounds like an ad, but we are in no way affiliated with the wineries or Griffith. But if you live within driving distance and would like a wine and food weekend Griffith is the place. They also have a festival on over the next few weeks. Great Italian food is a specialty of Griffith as 60% of the population are of Italian origins.

We bought more wine in two days than we would normally buy in two years.

We used to have DeBortolis & Brown Bros reds shipped up in barrels in the 70's. BBQ, Bangers & Bottling parties.

Great to see some of the lesser known gems in the country showing off their wonderful produce. And getting some Good Food Month publicity

Just out of curiosity, did you go via Wangaratta or Shepparton?

Neither. We went over the mountains via Tumut and Cooma.
We did an anticlockwise tour Tumut - Junee (licorice) Temora - Forbes - Walgett - Bourke - Griffith - Tumut - Cooma - Home.

Ah - god's country! I wondered about your " outback" comment & Griffith in the same post (haha).

I hope the others are having a better time of it than the Walgett - Bourke people.

Nice mix of mountain & plains bracketing the softer country. Did you go to any shoots while you were out there?

Sadly, after injuring my shoulder falling down a sand dune in Cornwall, I haven't done any shooting this year.

I still take students out though.
