Greek restaurants in Melbourne

My husband is Greek American and we are really looking forward to being in the city with the largest Greek population outside of Athens next week! Any recommendations for really great Greek restaurants you have been to is appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I can't remember the names of some of the really great ones except to say that there are many of them. Most of the ones on Lygon Street are worthy of mention but I am sure that someone from Melbourne will get on here and give you the name of the best of the best! Very good Greek atmosphere as well around them too. Was certainly the place to be during the Olympics! If all else fails then ask three people in Melbourne because one of them is sure to be Greek!

The main concentration of Greek food/shops/and other things Greek is in Lonsdale St in the city.

Victorias_23, if your husband understands Greek, he might turn on the radio and fiddle with the dial while you're in Melbourne. I understand the city has 5 Greek radio stations.

Hi victorias_23, Melbourne has one of the largest Greek populations outside of Greece - so you shouldn't have any trouble finding a Greek Restaurant.

Lygon Street in Carlton is more renowned for its Italian Restaurants than Greek - and yes Londsdale Street has a lot of Greek Restaurants as does Swan Street Richmond. If you can find a restaurant that does the whole lamb on the spit thing all the better.

I quite like Agapi in Swan Street, Richmond. Hope you enjoy yourselves.
