Great Ocean Road
Hi All
My husband and I are going to drive the Great Ocean Road in Feb or Mar next year from Melbourne to Adelaide and I'd like some people's thoughts on where to stay for overnight. I'm thinking 2 over night stays along the way. We don't want to rush it and time is flexible (around 7 nights). We'll be flying in from Perth so probably spend a night in Melbourne and then hit the road the following morning. Our plan is to fly out of Adelaide (after spending a night or two in the Barossa as I'm dying to head back there). We love scenery, wine and food and I would love to see a koala or two. Any recommendations of thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks. |
If you're driving from Melbourne, Lorne is a nice place for a stopover, good accommodation and food choices, very pretty location. A bit further on, Appollo Bay is also a good choice at the foot of the Ottways, good walking and mountain drives.
For the 2nd night Port Fairy is a lovely little historic fishing port. |
Robe is a pretty fishing village on the SA limestone Coast, and it's the crayfish capital of the world !

We loved Robe and Mt Gambier. Not sure if they make sense on the drive from MELB or not (spacing-wise) though, as we visited the areas on two separate trips, one from MELB, one from ADL.
Here's a report I wrote from the ADL trip that might give you a few ideas. http://www.fodors.com/community/aust...tone-coast.cfm |
Skenes Creek gives good access to Otway fly walk - lots of places to stay around this area.

We rented a house in Apollo Bay in April for a few days. Short drive to 12 Apostles, Cape Otway and a number of other places to visit. The town has some good restaurants. You can check our blog here :
