Great Barrier Reef
Visiting Australia (from Los Angeles) for two weeks next month. We would like to spend two nights on an island off of Cairns. We were set to visit Green Island Resort but the reviews are scaring us. Would love other ideas and your thoughts if you have been to Green Islanf. Trying to not spend more than $500 USD per night and we don’t want to stay on a boat. Thanks so much!

Hi, JBeth. Fitzroy Island Resort is my personal favourite. Fitzroy has all the family classics. What’s not so friendly is the price of the restaurant. So you can mix it up with pub fare from the beachfront bistro or bring your own groceries.

Must it be an island? Definitely not Green Island. Poor coral and over run with day trippers.
Perhaps think about staying at Port Douglas instead? You can do day trips to the Outer reef and world heritage Daintree Rainforest |
Try to experience a road trip, you will surely enjoy every activity on the way. I am sure it will be great Travel Visa Australia

Amo's recommendation of Port Douglas is spot on. The islands off Cairns, especially Green Island, are a very poor substitute for seeing the reef and rain forest proper.
Don't travel all this way to see substandard reef, coral and sea life. |
