great bar reef

i see some of you are advising staying away from green island. how about the arlingon reef by sunlovers is that better? i am going at the end of aug. any suggestion on which boat to take from cairns?

I'd forget cairns altogether and stay in Port Douglas - see pdddt.com.au, cairns is high rise, port douglas is low density apartments to fit any budget - I stayed at port douglas plantation resort for 10 days it was fantastic value, only 1 hr north to daintree raintforest and much better part of the great barrier -im a diver and would recommend staying on shore, everywhere in port is tropcial white sandy beaches without the expense!

hi
couldnt find pdddt.com.au is it spelt right?

Hi there, the pddtcom.au is the site for the Port Douglas and Daintree Tourism. generally speaking, the further north you travel, the better the reef is. Thus Port Douglas Reefs are better than Cairns Reefs. If you wish to snorkel then Wavelength is the only boat which specialises in snorkelling. If you want to dive then I would suggest Calypso ex Port douglas. If you do decide to go from cairns, then try for a smaller boat that only takes 30 - 40 people.
Enjoy!
