Goobang National Park
 

Has anybody been to Goobang National Park near Dubbo/Parkes? Can't find much info on it at all and was wondering what the landscape was like and about walking tracks, as I want to do a camping/walking holiday. Is it picturesque - forested - rocky - hilly - flat, etc. etc.

Never heard of it. What made you consider it as a destination.

With all National Parks, it's a good idea to check their homesite before you set out as they close from time to time (fires/floods etc.)

A group of us are were planning to go to Mutawintji NP near Broken Hill, but now some want to go to the Warrumbungles instead. Some of us feel that the Warrumbungles might be too 'foresty' (read shady, cold) at the beginning of October, so I'm looking for an alternative. Goobang is near Dubbo/Parkes and I thought the landscape might be a little more open than the Warrumbungles.

Not sure I get the whole connection between an area being forested and being cold. Regardless, I can't imagine there would be much difference in natural ground cover between Dubbo, Parkes and Coonabarabran as they are so close.

We visited and hiked in the Warrumbungles a couple of years ago. I was very impressed with both the rugged scenery and the wildlife. There are open areas in the park, especially in the valley (a great place to see kangaroos grazing at dusk). The hike up Grand High Tops was mostly through forest but was open at the top with magnificent views in all directions. I'd like to go back and do more hiking there.
