goldCoast + Sydney

I'm planning to go to Sydney/Gold coast this Dec. 1. Can anyone advise me how to go from Sydney from GoldCoast.
2. Which bus operator or train operates between them and the schedule, price?
3. Which is better at Goldcoast, Coolangatta, Broadbeach or SurferParadize?
4. Does anyone know there is a discount pass to go to Dreamworld, Movieworld and Seaworld?
5. Any day-tour recommended during the Goldcoast stay
Thanks alot.

Sean, Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach are probably closer to the centre of activities. A good value tour is "Off the Beaten Track" tour to the hinterland for an overnight trip to Springbrook Plateau. I think for transport, o/n accom, one meal and a bushwalk it is only about $50. Bus from Sydney to G.Coast is about $70 one way, there is no train station on the G.C. To get around there is Surfside Buslines that runs a frequent service 24hrs a day up and down between Southport and Tweed Heads a weekly ticket is about $30. The theme parks - Sea World, Movie World and Dream World day passes cost between $35 and $40 each. regards Peg

Hi Sean! The Gold Coast is great, you should enjoy it. I agree that Broadbeach & Surfers Paradise are more central. I think Broadbeach is a little quieter, so you might want to consider staying there and just 'visiting' Surfers. Also, a couple of hours further north is the Sunshine Coast, which has great beaches, without the high rises, but also without the action.

In regard to the theme parks on GC, there is usually a pass for a discount for 3 theme parks - Movieworld, Seaworld & Wet n Wild (a waterslide type park). This pack doesn't include Dreamworld, but is much cheaper, if you want to do all three.

Hope you have lots of fun, i'm sure you will :)

Hi Sean, The bus trip to sydney is about 12 hours, and could be done overnight, but some of the costal scenery is well worth experiencing, so try it during the day. of course, it may be hot at that time of the year. As for Sydney in Dec, you'd love it...

New South Wales Countrylink rail has a pass called East Coast Explorer with a Melbourne to Gold Coast/Brisbane option for AUD$152 pp. You can purchase this before you arrive from authorised travel agents, or when you get here on presentation of your passport.

I suggest you consider stopping in the Wollumbin World Heritage Region. Covering from Byron Bay to the Gold Coast, it has FIVE world heritage listed national parks, great rainforests full of unique flora and fauna, some of the best swimming and surfing beaches in Australia, and traditional aussie farming communities just a short drive from the glitz and glamour of the Gold Coast.

If you like being in the thick of it all and are relying on public transport, stay in Surfers, if you prefer to see "the real Gold Coast" check out Coolangatta and Rainbow Bay.

Public transport is good for the theme parks, and you can get pickups at your accommodation for most of the day tours.

For more info on the region check out
http://www.bigvolcano.com.au.

Cheers and Hooroo for now Jo-Ann Palmer
Big Volcano Visitor Guide - Your Natural Holiday Destination
http://www.bigvolcano.com.au
Ecotourism Resource Centre - A Lycos Top 5% Award Site http://www.bigvolcano.com.au/ercentre/ercpage.htm
