Going to Sydney & Perth in Dec/Jan
Hello All,

I need some help. My husband and I are going to Australia for three weeks mainly for a cousin's wedding but we are extending our visit to 3 weeks. We are landing in Sydney on 27th Dec for 3 1/2 days then off to Perth. Please give us some advice, feedback and tips that we should know in advance.

1) What to do with 3 days in Sydney?
2) Looking for a reasonable Hotel in Sydney during this peak season. Would like to stay near beautiful views.
3) Restaurants - fairly priced/good food. Also looking for one night of a romantic dinner that we will never forget.
4) Inter flight ticket from Sydney to Perth that is fairly cheap?
5) Must see and do in the Perth Area (primarily North and South of Perth. We will be there for 9 days.
6) Any other tips, or must do tours, things to avoid would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks in advance! Diana

Hi Diana,

There are literally oodles of things to do in and around Sydney to take up your 3 days there. Depending on what you like to do would dictate what people would suggest. If you are adventurous I would suggest a walk to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Matbe you would like to take in the scenery of the Blue Mountains by taking a day trip to Katoomba and the Three Sisters. You could also go on the scenic railway while you were there which is basically a cable car down the side of a canyon.

A visit to the Jenolan Caves is worthwhile and could be teamed up with the Blue Mountains trip.

A day trip to Port Stephens is also a great day out, you can take a dolphin cruise whilst you are there.

As for Sydney Accommodation I can recommend the Park Hyatt as a very good hotel with beautiful views, I have given you the website for you to look at what it offers. The website is:

http://www.hyatt.com.au/australia/sy...tel_sydph.html

For a dinner to remember I would recommend the Sydney Towers Al-a-carte restaurant not the Buffet restaurant which in my opinion is terrible. You will have the most beautiful sunset views of Sydney and surrounding areas.
I have given you the website for this restaurant it is as follows:

http://www.sydney-tower-restaurant.com/

For flight schedules to Perth from Sydney you can check the airlines websites for Qantas and Ansett. You should be able to save some money buy purchasing your tickets overseas. However the websites of interest to you are:

www.qantas.com.au
www.ansett.com.au

As for Perth well I can vouch for the Margaret River region especially if you enjoy wine tasting and such. Margaret River region is south of Perth.

Below is a whats on in Perth link for you to peruse:

http://www.whatson.com.au/

Hope this helps, if you need more detailed information you may e-mail me direct.

Cheers

Hi Diana
I'm from Perth so I'm going to give you a few tips on what to do here. The zoo here in Perth is one of the best in the world and I would highly recommend it. There may some night openings while you are here and that is a great time to visit - good to see the noctural animals and with the heat of the day alot of animals sit in the shade, so during the night they are more active. The City of Fremantle is also a great spot to visit. It is about 15-20 minutes from central Perth. It has great pubs, cafes, restaurants, the markets and lots of historical buildings. If you want to hold a koala, there are a couple of wildlife parks where you can do this. If you are interested in shopping (and if you are from the US the dollar exchange is really good for you) some great shopping areas are Claremont, Karrinyup Shopping Centre, Booragoon shopping centre, Subiaco is a neat little place to walk around with nice cafes and pubs. Kings Park is definitely worth a visit. The view of the city is wonderful, especially at night. All our beaches are wonderful if you enjoy the water. Check out Cottesloe and City Beach. If you are interested in sport, the Perth Wildcats Basketball team (part of the National Basketball League) will be playing. Local newspapers carry details. Also there might be a cricket game on if you want to see what that is all about (also check the local paper). Outside of Perth, highly recommend the Margaret River/Yallingup area. The wines and restaurants are fantastic and the scenery is well worth the drive (about 3 hours from Perth). A longer trek would be to Monkey Mia to see the dolphins.
Let me know if anything interests you and I can find out some more details for you.

Anne in Perth, Australia
