Glow Worm caves in Waitomo

My husband and I are planning a trip to New Zealand and would love to see the glow worm caves. We are unable to go through a lot of the physical process that is often required. Can the Glow worm caves in Waitomo be toured without abseiling and/or swimming?

Yes, the tour of the Waitomo Glow Worm Cave is a regular walking tour which ends with a boat ride across the Glow Worm Grotto. As the website says: "The Waitomo Glowworm Caves are accessible to those with reasonable mobility, with good handrails and paths."

There are several tours, but the usual one is easy walking. ((*))

I've done the regular tour, an abseiling tour and the swimming/wet tour of the Glow Worm Caves.

The regular tour of the Glow Worm Cave is easy - as said previously, an easy walking tour and then a short ride in a boat.

If you have reasonable mobility and are able to step into and out of the boat, the regular tour should be no problem.

I went with a tour company called Spellbound. This was just a look at the caves--no abseiling, black water rafting, etc. We went to two caves that are less visited. One was a gloworm cave and the other was a regular cave. We drove on a farm track to get there. There was some walking up and down but not really strenuous walking. The tour was suitable even for those who have limited mobility.

The main cave in Waitomo is, as previously noted, a walk through experience.

There are other gloworm caves in NZ and in Australia. They do not exist in other areas of the world. Go!
