Globus tour??
 

We want to go on a 20 day tour to Australia and NewZealand...what is the opinion on the Globus Monogram tours?

Most people on this forum are independent travellers and don't use tours .

20 days really isn’t enough for two countries in this region.

this one, 22 days, IMO sells the area around Cairns seriously short ditto the rest of the places it visits. plus you are moving at a fast pace but have a lot of free time which costs them nothing. A photo visit to Sydney opera house?

yes there are some activities involved e.g. a Milford sounds cruise, but you do spend an awfully long time in the coach.

with only 20 days I would choose either Australia or NZ and enjoy whichever you pick properly. When are you planning this trip for?

Somewhere between H-ll no and [rhymes with duck] no.

Both countries speak some variant of English and can be traversed independently. Last check, Australia is more than Sydney and Melbourne. The scenery at the GBR off Cairns is no better than what you can see in the Caribbean (that's anathema to Aussies, but it's true).

Northie---Monogram tours are independent travel with amenities needed ...we feel at our age that we need a tour with independent options. I hoe we all have acceptance for all types of travel depending on ones needs.

I was merely pointing out that you might not get much feedback about these tours . I'm not judging you for choosing this type of trip.

wordsmith, since you've raised it, what is your age? I think that you'd be surprised how many here are on the wrong side of 60 or even 70 but still enjoy traveling independently.

I see from the link that I found [is that the right one? it's always helpful to post a link to the tour that you're referring to so that we make sure that we're looking at the right thing] that they talk about its being independent travel but I can't see where they say what it is. Taxi, bus, self drive?

so far as Australia is concerned really there should be no problem with driving if you drive at home. NZ is rather harder I would agree and then a tour might be a better idea but a much slower one than this - there are loads on line if that's what you want to do.

But my main objection to this is that it crams far too much into the time available - it took us almost twice as long to cover more or less the same ground and even then we felt rushed in the NZ portion where we had 17 nights, most of them in the SI.

There are some very experienced travellers here who would love to help you plan your own trip if that's what you want to do. They helped us, and we had a wonderful time.

Uh, isn't being on the "wrong" side of 60 or 70 better than never reaching that number?

You need to look at other tour possibilities including picking specific destinations and doing day trips or short trips from each. Look at aatkings.com or other Australia based tour operators if you're so set on doing a tour.
