What will the weather be like at the Great Barrier Reef in early April?

We are going to be in Australia the last week of March and the first week of April. We will be in Sydney for the first week and then want to explore another area of the country.

Rose it should be ideal but then you can never rely on the weather. However if you are going up to the far north and it does rain you can still enjoy seeing the countryside. There also are many times when it may be raining on the mainland but not at the reef. At that time of year most monsoonal rains should have gone and it most probably would only be short showers anyway. The temperatures should be lovely too and after the summer rains the waterfalls and streams will be pristine.

Hi Rose, We were on the Great Barrier Reef late April 03 and the weather was just beautiful.

Hot but very pleasent. The water temprature was such that we actually spent around 3 hours in the water during our first swim over the reef.

Our guide told us the weather is always good late April through May.

We hope to be back there again next May.

Expect warm humid weather, and very comfortable ocean temperatures. It's the tail end of wet season, but it's still (usually but unpredictably) a wet month.

The great barrier reef is 2000 kms long. You will have to be more specific. It starts just north of Brisbane and stretches all the way up to cooktown.

In April Brisbane, which experiences pretty much identical weather to cooktown in summer, will be cooling down. However, Cooktown pretty much doesn't cool down. It's tropical weather all year round.

I'd also like to add that you shouldn't be scared of the type of rain you get in North Qld. Rain does not mean it will be cold. You can go outside and stand in it and you won't get cold.
