Gas Prices
We are planning to travel around Brisbane and the gold coast in September. Anyone able to give me and idea of the gas prices in this area now?
|
ULP (Unleaded Petrol) about 116c/litre on the G.Coast yesterday. This is the base rate and if your car uses a higher grade, you will expect to pay and additional 10cents/litre or so. Fuel prices fluctuate quite a bit, so what's current now is not necessarily a guarantee of September's pricing.

We also don't refer to it as 'gas' downunder - gas (LPG)is what you use to cook your bbq etc. Petrol or fuel is the common terminology just FYI
|
Thanks so much for the info. Sounds like we better be saving our money for the "petrol". Glad to know the correct terminology so we don't "barbecue our vehicle!"
|
Just as a point of reference, termoore - cars will have 50 or 60 litre tanks, so cost to fill will be $60-$70. Mine does about 10km/litre, so a tank will last me about 600km.
Regrettably, it doesn't take this grade & usually costs me closer to $80 for a fill. When I'm renting, I get the smallest manual I can & they seem to go forever on 'the smell of an oily rag'. |
Also if you are from the USA your gallon if not the same as was our gallon - I think that your gallon was about 75% of ours so if you are converting only use ltrs otherwise it won't work.

Except for initial budgeting purposes it's best to just forget about litres, gallons and the rest. With a few minor exceptions nobody except old people thinks in the old measures any more, as we converted to metrics over 30 years ago and you'll just get yourself confused to no purpose.
A mid-sized car will cost you $60-80 to fill from empty depending on grade of fuel, which in US$ is say $55-70. That will take you 500-600 km, which is about 300-360 miles, rough rule of thumb and good enough for budgeting purposes. |
When I was in the US earlier this year the difference was only about 15 cents per litre if you didn't factor in exchange rates.

Thanks for everyone's reply. It helps to have an idea what to expect when trying to budget. Looking so forward to our trip. We leave in 6 weeks.
