French Polynesia or Caribbean??

My boyfriend and I (early 40's) are planning a trip to either Bora Bora &/or Moorea OR one of these 4 islands in the Caribbean: Aruba, Barbados, Cayman Island, or St. Lucia. I'm not sure how the Caribbean compares to the French Polynesia - advantages/disadvantages. I'm hoping some of you have visited some of these islands and can shed some light on what you consider the best of the bunch and why. We're looking for something romantic, quiet, beautiful scenery, lovely beaches, good food, etc. Looking forward to lying on the beach, by the pool, sight-seeing, snorkeling, lots of R&R. Hoping to keep the price at $5,000 or under if possible. Any and all input will be greatly appreciated! If we can't make a decision soon, we may just end up going to Maui (we're in California). Thanks!
We've been to a few caribbean islands and honeymooned in Bora Bora and Moorea June/July 98. French Polynesia is very remote, but extremely romantic. The water there cannot compare to the Caribbean. However, we do love the Caribbean and will always continue to visit there. An over the water bungalow is a must for French Polynesia, a lot more money, but worth it. I would have to say that French Polynesia is more romantic, more quiet, much more beautiful, and the snorkling is superb.....but the beaches and the food in the Caribbean is superior. It is very difficult to compare as they are quite different. I would recommend French Polynesia. You can always hop a plane to the Caribbean, but travelling to French Polynesia which is much further is a once in a lifetime experience. Also, French Polynesia is very very very expensive....so if money is not a problem...go there. If you want more info E-mail me.

Agree with Nancy. Unless you're looking to buy tee shirts, FP is the place to go. Remote, beautiful, romantic and expensive. I actually thought the food was quite good as well. As Nancy said, you can always go to the Caribbean, but FP is pretty much once in a lifetime.
