Fodors incorrect information about Katikati, Bay of Plenty
Once again Fodors have published totally incorrect information. FACT- Katikati was NEVER in the early days heavely populated by Maori. In fact the Ti-Tree and fern landscape was not suitable for villages. The only population in the area was a village on Matakana Island and a village at Bowentown. For a very short time the Maori at Matakana Island did have a food garden at what is now the end of Beach Road. However a waring party soon put an end to this. If you go to my web site www.kaimaiview.co.nz you will see the facts.
Once again Katikati was not populated by Maori and the "few" maraes that are here came about AFTER european colonisation. The dairies of Samuel Marsden on his first trip to this region (also the first european to do so) describe in detail what was here. Swamp, ti-tree, bracken and fern right down to the sea. No Maoris though. Not until they reached Tauranga. |
Hello kaimaiview, send this thread to [email protected] so that hopefully they will correct their information when they issue their next Guide book.

Just in case you do not know, click on "Share with a friend" to email this thread to Fodors. Best regards.

Hi LoveItaly
Thanks for your suggestions. I have sent 2 emails to Fodors editors and also a feedback email. No response from them. Also they have published an incorrect, infactual and misleading review on Kaimai View Motel. I have sent them two feedback e mails and also two e mails to the editors. No response. I have also sent e mails to Random House - their publishers. No response. In fact their review seems to apply more to the 40 year old motel across the road from us. They have white washed rooms - not us, they have low white and green buildings - not us. They have basic rooms - not us. We are a new, modern high quality motel as our web site www.kaimaiview.co.nz shows. Added to our quality is the more than 80 original works of art that hang on our walls. We don't have prints or copies. Only originals. As with our proffessionlay landscape grounds we have sculpters around the complex. Fodors are doing themselves AND their customers a diservice should they continue to ignore us. |
Sometimes it takes a few days for the editors to respond. Try to be patient. If you can't be patient, maybe it would be best for you to keep emailing the editors rather than continuing to repeat your posts here.
