Flinders NP or Mt. Remarkable NP? end of Jan 2013, OK time to go?

This will be our 5th trip to Australia. We will be travelling from Broken Hill to Adelaide and we have six day allocated. We have been to Adelaide and Barossa Valley before. The time will be end of January 2013. We are thinking of swinging to Flinders NP for 2 days and 3 nights and then spend the remaining 3 days in McLaren Vale. Any Advice on visiting Flinders NP at this time of the year. I know it will be hot so we will limit any hiking and do mostly short stops along the road and a bit of sight seeing. Will there be any interesting sights in January or will the park be scorched brown from heat? As an option what about Mt. Remarkable NP instead. Any comments will be appreciated.

Flinders in Jan wouldn't be my choice, but I hate the heat. And the flies.

We visited in Sept and the weather was perfect for hiking and general kicking about.

It will be hot - up to 45 January 2011 and 41 last January according to:-

There are plenty of short walks throughout the park and a shuttle bus from the main centre to the start of the Wilpena Pound walks.

Brachinna Gorge is quite sheltered and you drive the full length of it. It is absolutely stunning. Keep an eye out for the yellow footed rock wallaby. The road follows the creek bed and is a bit rough in parts and you may go through some puddles. We did it in a Hiace Van 2WD with no worries at all. Likewise the couple of fords that are washed out.

Bunyeroo Gorge is another lovely one with a walk down the middle. It has plenty of trees and shade.

We took a flight around the park from Blinman with Fargher Air. Well worth it.

I haven't been to Mt Remarkable as yet, but it would be just as hot as the Flinders may a degree or two cooler.

We went in early July this year.

Z, if you go be prepared to change your plans. I went there in December and had a great time but a week later they were in heat waves.

Brachinna Gorge is one of the geological wonders of the world.
