Flights sydney/ Melbourne

I have heard that the flight prices should be coming down as Virgin are starting service. does anyone know where I can get a low priced return ticket Sydney/Melbourne in August? I believe it is cheaper to book in Australia that from out the country. I suppose it can be done through a travel agency on a web site. Thanks

I would also recommend checking Impulse airlines (not sure of web address) but they have just started operating to all the major cities and have rock bottom prices.

I believe Impulse are currently advertising $139 Sydney/Melbourne. If you are flying into the country, you may be able to get this costed into your international air ticket at a good price.

Impulse have $139 one-way fares between Sydney and Melbourne or return fares for $270. I think they will also soon be flying Sydney-Brisbane and Sydney-Canberra, but thats about it. They certainly don't cover the whole country.
There fares are only cheaper than Qantas/Ansett if you're booking close to the time of travel. If you can book at least 21 days in advance you might find Qantas/Ansett cheaper with fares of around $200-$250 return.
From 1 July there will be a GST of 10% on domestic airfares, although not for fares bought from outside Australia, I think.

There are great deals on domestic airfares at this time for travel July thru Sept. You must book them in Australia to get the good fares - if you are outside OZ then find a booking service on the web who is based in Australia. If you are in USA and you call Quants after hours you may be linked to the Australia office and be able to book that way - I don't know how that would work.

Both Ansett and Qantas have a $99 one way fare special available from 16th July. Look up their web site for details. They are also at <travel.com.au> on their newletter specials and you could book over the web. Read the conditions carefully and of course they will be popular and first in first dressed. Good luck
