Flight to Yasawa Island luggage restriction
Help! I will be traveling to yasawa Island Resort and there is a weight restriction of 15kg's or 33lbs per person. Can anyone tell me how strict they are with enforcing this and would a purse be included in this weight?
Any help is appreciated.

It all depends - these flights are not exactly on 747's. Don't be surprised if some small inter-island flights weigh you along with the luggage. (for proper weight distribution) If there is a flight with alot of people and a lot of luggage, no matter what you're going to have to leave the luggage behind and have it follow on the next flight that has the space. A few pounds won't make alot of difference, but if you're way over you're going to be charged extra. You can get the luggage their but it's just a matter of both time and money.

It is all dependant on how much weight is going to be on the flight. these flights not only take the visitors but often the supplies for the resort as well. I've always been weighed along with my luggage and I've seen 2 divers not allowed to take any of their dive gear onboard as it exceeded the limit on a day when they needed to get wine to a resort! It's not about paying extra - its about the max weight allowed on the plane. You may or may not have a problem and its impossible to know until you check-in. Unless you're taking diving gear you should be able to keep under the limit - as you don't need a lot of clothes!

Sorry - a bit more info! As the flights to Yasawa also serve to bring in the supplies for the village as well as the resort it is unusual for them to have extra capacity. I'd work on keeping as close to the limit as possible.

Thanks Mary for saying it better than I did. Sorry if anyone got the impression that you could simply pay extra and get something on the plane. When you do have overage, yes you will pay extra, but that's all I meant. When I said you may have to wait until the next flight with space, I was trying to say what you said. If you have overage, it's going to be put in the queue for next availability. You have to pay, but that's totally separate and paying won't move it up any higher in that queue.

Hi Keli
Having just come back from the Yasawas the information you have been given is accurate. Yhe main reason is that these are floatplanes with a lot of drad and extra weight. I have seen one that had too much luggage on board (and some rather heavy clients!) fail to take-off and have to return and unload!

Unless you are very fashion consious then a bikini for each day and a couple of tops is about all you will need (a male talking) In our 30 kg (15 each) we took snorkelling gear, an ample supply of wine and spirits and a heap of books.

Have a great holiday.
Kerry

I'm not sure about Yasawa but I know at Vatulele & Namale they include laundry service. That is a big help, as you can take minumal underclothes (you're mostly in a bathing suit anyway!) & they can launder those & t-shirts & shorts. For dinners, I had sarongs which are very lightweight, or tropical flowered pants & tank tops. At Vatulele, no shoes is the policy so that helped! They usually provide shampoo & conditioner & lotions also. If you have concerns e-mail the resort. I did, knowing we had 76 Lbs combined weight (mostly snorkeling gear & cameras) rather than 66lbs & they asked our individual weight (which is on the low side) & they said no problem. We also got lighter luggage becasue our hardside suitcase weighs 18lbs empty! And no your purse in not included in the 33 lbs but they will weigh it, with you when you step on the scales! But don't worry, take less, & have a wonderful time! And post a report on Yasawa lodge when you return. I'd love to hear a recent review.
