Flight connection
I am flying in from Singapore and reaching Auckland on 27th April at 10:30 am. I would like to fly taking the earliest possible connecion to Christchurch.
How much time should I leave between these flights? Will I be allowed to check in through to Christchurch? |
Forgot to add - I will be flying Singapore airlines to Auckland and taking a Qantas to Christchurch.

If the airline books the flights this way, I don't worry too much. If the two flights are with the same airline but are two different tickets, leave more time and in (I think) your case, two different airlines booked at different times. I would allow three hours.

Checking Qantas, http://linktrim.com/56z, the next flight is 12:10, which seems reasonable to me. You could call Qantas and ask them if this is enough time. Also, check the on-time stats for the Singapore flight.
I suspect that you will have to go through customs in AKL, since you have to carry your luggage from the international to the domestic terminal. ((#)) |
Hi There Kram
How easy would it be for you to alter your ticket? I ask this as there is a direct Singapore air flight SQ297 that flys into Christchurch on the 27th at around 10:50am. If you could change to this you would get rid of the hassle of changing terminals and airlines in Auckland. |
Kiwi Acct, that officially makes me feel like an idiot :) All flights are now confirmed and changes cost too much..
I cant do a direct check in through to Christchurch as I have to clear customs/immigration. I arrive at 10:30 and will take the flight out at 2:00. Looks like I will have 1-2 hrs free at Auckland airport - anything close to the airport? |
Hi Kram
Easily done with a booking like that. Don't knock yourself too hard. When flying to England I have booked to fly into London before now, forgetting that Singapore air flies directly to Manchester which was my intended destination. As far as Auckland airport is concerned if you have a couple of hours to kill there are a couple of things you could do. There is a golf driving range just off Tom Pierce drive (which is one of the roads at the airport about 1km from the intl terminal). There is also a miniput golf course on the same road. Next door to this there is a butterfly house with a cafe attached which is certainly a pleasant excursion for an hour. You could walk to these or it would be a $5 cab fare. If you want to pick up a few provisions there is a supermarket and a discount store nearby. Again walkable or a $5 cab fare. These are on the corner of George Bolt Memorial Ave and John Goulter. Here is a link to the map of the airport roads. Sorry it is such a long link. http://www.wises.co.nz/map/default.a...mp;zoomin=true When you get through customs and MAF on your left are desks for domestic connections. Hope this helps |
Hi Kiwi -
Check out linktrim.com, which is what I used above to avoid the long URL's which distort the responses. ((*)) |
Cheers Jed
Thanks for that link - now safely saved in my favorites. Hopefully in the future my posts will not skew the screen as much as my previous one did. |
