The server has been down all day and I was not a happy chappy .Now at 2am ( as I have been doing proper work until late) I thought I would see if we had a server and yippee so here goes .

Bokhara I am not sure where you mean .If coming onto the Esplanade from Fitzroy St.( city end ) then it is the Espie Hotel which now has private apartments built behind it .Midway is the Novotel on the site of the okld ice skating rink .At the other end of the Esplanade and just before Maccas and opposite the Palais Theatre is old waterpolice headquarters which has been turned in to something . I looked up at it briefly about 8 weeks ago when I went to see my contemporary Bryan Ferry sing there and wondered what it was.

The other place is just past the intersection of Acland and Carlisle Streets where the tram runs . That is the old Cosmopolitan Motel - white and about 3 stories .

I sold my apartment with Bay panoramas and sunsets in 1999 , after 13 years , and now hardly go back - but not because I do not like it Lavici - so I am a bit out of touch on some things .But I am there for a lovely lunch on Tuesday at either of Stokehouse upstairs or Donovans , I will look around a little more closely and pass the info back to you all .

Glad you like Ricketts Bokhara as we have our country getaway house and garden 2 doors away where I slave in the garden on weekends for so called pleasure . But we do get crimson rosellas , King Parrots ( who eat from our hands and come and sit chirping if the food is not out )Kookaburras , Black Cockatoos, white cockatoos , robins , wrens and finches , galahs .Look at Cloudehill Garden in Olinda sometime as it is really wonderful.

So Lavici you may be in Melbourne mid May ? Keep me posted as I will be happy to give further advice and help and depending on schedules buy you a coffee or a caipiroska !I think you can safely enjoy 3 or 4 nights in Melbourne if you like wondering around and browzing , sitting sipping a drink , galleries and the like .To bed now .

hi john fitz ... i think i will either be in melb in early april or maybe after my conference in sydney in mid may. i'm still undecided as to what would be more convenient...itinerary wi$e.
i agree with bokhara that doing NZ first, then TAS, then Mel, and finally SYD would be the most logival way, the thing is i have to be in TAS by april 9th.and in SYD by may 6th at the latest.
i'll let you know ASAP when is it that i will finally land in melb, and of course if your schedule permits i would love to meet for coffee.. what on earth is a caipiroska? is it a pastry, or a combination of a caipirinha with something polish or russian? ja ja ja ja LOL

Lavici , You will love both Sydney and Melbourne. When in sydney don't miss The Rocks area, it is beautiful with historic buildings and great cafes/restaurants and fantastic markets though I cant remember which day they are open. This area is within walking distance from Darlingharbour. Another great market in Melbourne are the St Kilda markets near the beach and close to Acland Street where you can find the most wonderful cakeshops!!!

Lavici! How was your trip? Do you have any recommendations in Sydney and beyond? I may only be in Sydney for 3 or 4 days and Brisbane and Port Douglas for the rest of a two week stay. I like the idea of having the airport convenient by train or other public transportation. Any hotels and sites you recommend..or not?
