First class or coach-LAX to NAN?
Is it worth paying the extra money to fly first class (or really business class) as opposed to coach from LA to Nadi, Fiji? It is 4k more to upgrade, and I'm trying to decide if its really worth it or not. how is air pacific's coach for 10 hours?

I suppose it depends how rich you are. I certainly could never afford such a luxury no matter how uncomfortable coach is. I could take a whoe other trip for that kind of money. So it's all about priorities. Having said that, the coach was not really all that bad. Air New Zealand had the most leg room I've ever encountered and I managed to get a few hours of sleep.
If you are able to sleep, then the time goes by quicker. I'd do it again. |
£4000 or $ goes a real long way in Fiji! If you're going to relax in Fiji then you'll have ample opportunity to get over the flight on the beach.
I flew from LA to Nadi last year on an Air Pacific 747 - it was only about a third full so i had plenty of space to stretch out in Economy. I agree with Kodi, unless 4000 is small change I'd say no, it is not worth it. it'll probably be a nighttime flight so you'll be paying to sleep. |
None of us likes to sleep in an uncomfortable bed, even for one night -but would we pay US$4000 extra to get a comfortable one? The whole idea sounds extraordinarily profligate to me, but I'm a budget traveller. If $4K is small change to you, and the money is better in the airline's pocket than yours, I guess you may as well do it.

thanks for the replies-we decided to go with coach. this is a honeymoon trip, so we arent skimping anywhere else, but 4k just seemed rediculous. however, if coach was truly unbearable for folks, then in the scheme of things it could potentially be worth it. glad its not-better to use that $$ elsewhere!!

Agree, blb3. I won't pretend our SYD-West Coast flights (14 hrs) in economy class were fun, but they hardly fell into the "unbearable" category.
|
HI Blb3, this is a little late in the game so you might have already traveled, but if not here goes...- you can try and upgrade at the airport in LAX for a fraction of the cost - it depends upon who is working at the counter - but the maximum would be around $600 per person each way. It could be less. Good luck!
