Figi and New Zealand in February

Hello,
My wife and I are in the midst of planning a winter get a way from New York. We are thinking of New Zealand with a stop in Fiji either on the way there or back for a few days. I know that Feb is the middle of summer at both locations and is hurricane season in Fiji. Others have told me not to worry about hurricane season that it isn't that bad in the south pacifc?? Anyway I am looking for some info on what the weather is like in fiji and New Zealand in February. Will they be two totally different climatic experiences? Thanks for any advice in advance.

My husband and I are also considering a trip to Fiji/New Zealand next February or March. I hope that you get some replies to your question!

Not much activity on this board about Fiji, unfortunately. Try the Trip Advisor forums, much more info and an article about the weather and when to go for what activity.

cire3:

It has been a few years since we visited Fiji and New Zealand on the same trip.

I was very disappointed in Fiji. Compared to the Cook Islands, Western Samoa and Tonga it is the last place I would revisit.

I was cheated numerous times from the boat tour we took, the airport cafe and our hotel. Mostly penny stuff and with a dishonour to our hotel reservation and theft on the cruise. Markets vendors were persistant in hounding us.

As it has been sometime since that visit, the strength of those memories still leves me very unhappy and with bad memories of that stop.

By all means, the Cook Islands were the best and we returned there as we did for Western Samoa [stay at Aggie Grey's] but would not consider a return to Fiji.

Perhaps some other travel sites can give you better and more positive feed back but sadly, not from me.

New Zealand was great and we went four times.

Hi Cire,

Weather is always problematic -- I've been in NZ during their summer and had miserable weather, so you can't really go by that either...

Hurricane season is considered November - April.

It sounds as if Woodie had a very bad Fiji experience; however, to each his own - I, on the other hand didn't enjoy the Cook Islands and wouldn't go back there! But so much of this comes down to personal preferences, what you were expecting of your destination, what hotel/resort you stayed at, etc.

When I was at the Cooks I was on business and did site inspections at about 16 or more hotel properties. When I was in NZ, I did Fiji on the way back and stayed at a brand new resort with amazing food, ala Food Network presentation style plates.

I will say that I'd always heard about the warmth of the Fijian people and I absolutely found that to be true.

Hope this is helpful!
