Fees for national parks, lakes etc in New Zealand?
Is there a fee and how much to enter national parks in New Zealand, lakes, and other natural scenic areas? I read an article that they were going to start doing so last October, but it wasn't clear if it was just for overnight stays in the parks? What if we're just visiting the parks during the day, what are the fees? can we pay by credit card?

Maybe you're thinking of the proposed International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy to be collected through visa fees and via the new Electronic Travel Authority. "The Government is now working through the operational details for collecting the levy, and developing the inaugural Investment Plan. The levy will come into effect in the latter half of 2019." The The levy is expected to raise an estimated $80 million a year which will be put towards infrastructure and conservation projects. The govt. has been talking about this for a while and I wouldn't be surprised if it got put off another year. More info here:

Recently, hut fees for the national parks were increased. But the national parks are still free to visit.
