Easter Holiday in NZ

We will be arriving in NZ (Christchurch) on April 12th (Easter is the 11th) and will be spending the next 4 weeks there. We've booked the first few nights, but then plan to play it by ear. We're not sure how the Easter holiday works there and would like advice on how much needs to be booked in advance (meaning prior to our arrival on the 12th)? Is the school holiday from April 5th-19th or some other time period? If we can "make it through the first week" should we then be ok for reservations going forward? Thanks in advance.

Bentley -

I can't comment on how the Easter holiday might affect your travel plans, but my 2004 NZ calendar shows that school holidays are from April 9-25 and that April 9 (Good Friday) April 12 (Easter Monday) and April 13 (Easter Tuesday) are holidays.

Easter Tuesday is mainly for the schools and this year it will be holidays. Everything will be open.
You do not say where you will be landing. With 4 weeks you will be able to see part of both islands.
If you would like more information let me know as i live in New Zealand.

Christine-

We are landing in Christchurch. We plan to drive south to Dunedin, then towards Queenstown & Fiordland, then north to Franz Joseph Glacier, Abel Tasman Nat'l park and Marlborough region before taking the ferry across to Wellington. We plan to rent a car again and to drive to Rotorua, Waitomo & Auckland. We may also go north of Auckland for a few days if the weather looks nice.

I realize that this is very general, but we intend to figure it out as we go. My fiancee and I are in our late 20s and are willing to try most anything. We would like to balance outdoor/adventure activities (bungee jumping, sea kayaking & tramping, etc.) with relaxing ones (wine tasting, long lunches, etc.).
In terms of accomodations, something in the range of $125-$225 NZ per night works for us. Any and all recommendations for lodging and restaurants are much appreciated.

One last random question for all, where can I Zorb in NZ?

Thanks in advance.
