Dunedin lodging -- Leviathan Hotel?

Hi, does anybody have experience with the Leviathan Hotel in Dunedin?

I'm looking for an inexpensive en suite double room, and based on their website they look just fine.

There's a post on here from 5 years ago, but that's the closest I can find to a review. Something a little more recent would help in deciding whether to book.

Thanks so much for the advice.

A word about the Leviathan -

We stayed there many moons ago, so I can't offer a current impression. However, if you do book, be aware that many of their cheaper "tourist" rooms are very, very small and face a noisy street.

We were given one of these rooms and didn't get a wink of sleep, so we asked to be moved into a much larger, quieter room in the back, which was a huge improvement.

As long as you are not cat-allergic, my recommendation in Dunedin is Hulmes Court. Central location, wide range of room types & prices, friendly staff. Wonderful great room for breakfast & lounging & free internet & laundry (you will appreciate this when you are there). The host has a great library of books and tapes with a New Zealand focus. There is on-site parking but you need a smaller car to take advantage of it (kind of steep driveway w tight turns). There is on street parking as well. Hulmes.co.nz. Just double-checked, I can't believe that cat now has his own web page...

We are actually both allergic to cats!
Thanks for your recommendation and all of your responses to my posts today!

OOPS! Be sure to check on the pet situation if you are looking at B&B's or homestays. Often there is a resident cat or dog, but the listings are pretty good about disclosing this. My recommendation for Windsor Hotel in Christchurch is good unless you have a dachshund allergy! If you are interested in B&B's the website bnb.co.nz is really good. Have fun planning...

I stayed at the Leviathan last september and wasnt disappointed - it's well located near the octagon but avoid the budget 70NZD rooms- too small and not very comfortable.
