Diane,

Go see the Crocodile Hunter's (Steve Irwin's) zoo in Beerwah just north of Brisbane. We drove there from Brisbane and had a great time!
Brisbane was alot of fun. We went to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary via boat on the Brisbane River.
We also drove to Surfer's Paradise. It's quite the tourist town, but it has a Hard Rock Cafe and we are collectors. It caters to the Japanese tourists.
If you need any info on these areas please feel free to email me directly.
Kittie

Why would you want to drive all that way? Why not take a plane or train to get there and spend your time relaxing on a beach or seeing something besides the road!? Have you tried to trailride from one spot with day trips? This would be far less exhausting.I also feel strongly that you will be missing the best area if you do not go to Port Douglas. Cairns is touristy and ugly compaired to Port Douglas--a short drive north.
PS Your 2 teens will beg to be left in Port Douglas where the swimming is great. Don't miss the Great Barrier Reef via boat...you can't get everywhere by car!

Hi Diane,
If you have enough time the drive from Cairns to Sydney is the most scenic in Australia & should not be missed.
International tourists visiting our shores regularly tell us the diversity of country, magnificient scenery & varied attractions are the highlight of their trip, ie, Beaches, rainforests, gorges, plains, agricultural communities & their harvests, gold discovery town of Mt Morgan, turn of the century, & how about a private yacht chater to the reef & island surrounds - truly, this particular area you're enquiring about has all the criteria you seek & more. Email me if you'd like further info, only too happy to assist.
Cheers,
Barb
