Drivers license

Hi everyone , I will be renting a car in Tasmania and Queensland , does anyone if its okay if I bring my license which is in English or do I need an international permit ? I know someone here told me that they were ok in Victoria. Can someone confirm for QLD & TAS?

In Qld if your licence is in English its ok but you can only drive the type of transport listed on the licence. So if you can only drive an automatic where you are from you cant drive a manual over here.

Tasmania is the same. If licence is in English that's all you need. If not in English you will need an International licence or an official translation of the licence.

I don't know how it works in Canada, and granted I've been gone from the US a long time, but I'm not aware of any US state that distinguishes between automatic and manual on a driving license.

Motorcycle yes.

No province in Canada differentiates between manual and automatic on a driver’s licence. Rental vehicles here are almost invariably automatic.

thanks melnq8 I didn't realise they didn't distinguish like us. I was reading the govt info on international visitors and they mentioned they can only drive what their own licence permits.
