Do you need tickets in advance for the Skyrail to Kuranda?
 

Does anyone know if I need to purchase the tickets for the Skyrail to Kuranda in advance or can I just show up? Thanks!

Hi, I don't believe that you need to purchase in advance. When we were there (March) we had no trouble just going right up to the Skyrail, purchasing our tickets, and off we went. It is quite enjoyable as was the little town of Kuranda. We took the train back to cairns and then a bus back to our hotel. I think I would have preferred the Skyrail both ways. But then sometimes you just need to experience both.<BR><BR>Enjoy your trip and I wish we were going too!!

Hi,<BR>We went to Kuranda Oct 01 and we unfortunately took an organised tour.<BR>It was the only part of our holiday that was in someone elses hands. It was a good organised visit but it was too regimented to time. We had to follow their itinary.<BR>My advice to you would be turn up and pay.<BR>We took the Scenic rail, which was pleasant but not as pleasant as the fantastic Sky rail, If I go again it will be sky rail both directions, you can stop off to go into the rainforest at various points along the sky rail route, as it calls into some &quot;stations&quot;.<BR>We took the amphibious army duck, which was a good laugh, and the Kuranda village has a amphitheatre where the Pamagirri dancers perform an aboriginal dance (beware they may get you up to perform with them).<BR>You could try their website http://www.kuranda.au.com.<BR>Have fun<BR>Rich<BR><BR>Wales UK

I understand that it is necessary to pre-book tickets at busy tourist times. You can take the train from the city to Kuranda and then return by Skyrail, or visa versa. There is a bus linking Skyrail with the train station.

Any idea how it is in early Feb? Also, do they allow a stop at the Tjapukai Village? Is there separate entrance/show fees?<BR><BR>Thank you very much,<BR><BR>Enrique

I'd check that they'll be open and operating when you're planning to go. I was going to be there mid February but was told they're closed then.

No need to book, but as Rich suggested the Skyrail both ways is preferred to the train/Skyrail pairing - the train is old and the view is often not much more than dense bush or cuttings.

We took the Skyrail in February, and there was no problem getting on. It is a skilift-style gondola, so you simply wait your turn to get on the next (6-person?) gondola. No need for advance bookings. The train, on the other hand, could possibly fill up. <BR><BR>The Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Centre is right at the Skyrail base. You can purchase advance tickets to attend the performances, and during busy times, I would recommend doing so, as seating is quite limited. <BR><BR>You don't need to book a tour, you can get a bus to take you to the Skyrail and/or the Kuranda train.
