Do I need an ETA if I have a passport?

Hello
This may be a really dumb question but I am planning to go to Australia in less than 2 weeks and as I was searching sites I seen something mention that you need to have an ETA to enter Australia. I have a valid US Passport but do I need to apply for an ETA also?
TIA for any help!!!
Carolyn

Okay, Thanks! I would have never even known that if I wouldn't have been searching today...I leave next Sunday so hope it doesn't get declined! Thanks for your help!

If you booked your ticket through an agent Carolyn, could be that they actually processed one for you.
As you can see it's only $20 but agents used to be able to do it for free [may still be able to] and up to them whether they charge for the few minutes of computer time it'd take them.

The airline can also do it for you. United did ours.
