Dive Operators - Port Douglas

Anyone have any recommendations for dive operators to use in Port Douglas? Going next month and didn't see any recent threads on this one. Only there for one day, and want to dive only. I prefer smaller boats for less people, but it sounds like it has to be a big boat to get to the Outer Reefs. Anyone try Blue Diving?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance! :-)

Hi Katjanicki

interested to read your thread as we've been trying to find out the same thing. DH is a diver and we have been trying to get some info for our visit to Port Douglas in November.

all we've been able to find out is that there are several operators and they all take you out to the reef. we have longer than you though [5 nights] so I'm hoping that we'll be able to sort it out when we get there, possibly through our hotel.

are you staying in Port Douglas? if so, you might try e-mailing them for a recommendation.

I am in Port Douglas right now and am loving it here-don't stay in Cairns as opposed to PD as this town has so much more to offer! We did only snorkeling here with Wavelength which is a 30 person boat that is very Eco conscious and has a great rating. Although they are only a snorkeling company,do try to look at other companies such as Poseidon instead of Quicksilver has they seem to own the town for all of the bus crowd tourists who come to the GBR.
Do yourselves a favor and include a lunch or dinner at The Tin Shed here in Port Douglas. It overlooks the marina and has wonderful food that is reasonable and super tasty. You either have to be a member or sign in with your address to be able to eat there as you cannot eat there if you live within 15 Kilometers (if not a member). It has the best prices and a great atmosphere.
Thoroughly enjoying our stay here-

Ann, I think Wavelength is also the one Ralph used last spring, and it is the one I am considering for my trip to the reef in December.

Sorry I don't know anything about dive boats Kat :-(

Hi dutyfree - thanks for taking the time to post during your holiday. we will be looking at all the companies I think!

Where are you staying?

thanks too for the recommendation of the Tin shed - though I'm not sure I understand what you mean about the arrangements - will the address of a hotel in PD be acceptable?

You use your home address when you sign in-had several people come up to us and chat as they heard we were from Chicago!

We rented an apartment through Seascape Holidays on Booking.com-it is the Driftwood Mantaray apartments. It's a half block to 4 mile beach and literally a 2 minute walk to all of the restaurants and shops on the main drag street. Two pools,on site parking and a great stay!
