Dinner and a Show in SYD - What to Wear

Heading out in Sydney to see the Cirque de Soleil show Quidam at Fox Studies on Sept 14 and the wife wanted to know what was acceptable attire for this, as we want to be appropriate but for packing purposes cut down on any unecessry extras. Any assistance would be helpful.

Hello Brazoo,

I went to Cirque du Soleil in Calgary. Australians are no more formal than Canadians are, so I can't imagine that the dress in Sydney would be fancier than it was in Calgary.

The members of the audience covered a broad spectrum. A few were in quite dressy outfits, and a few were dressed rather casually. The majority were between the two extremes, wearing smart casual attire.

If you're going to an evening show in September, the temperature may be on the cool side when you emerge, so I suggest taking a sweater or jacket.

I enjoyed the show very much, and hope you do too.

Hi

We're attending the symphony at the Opera House there and I e-mailed them asking if jacket was required/necessary and their reply was "club casual dress is appropriate" and no jacket required.

Hope this helps you.

Yes definitely casual. We dress informally for most things..restaurants usually say "smart casual" which doesn't entail coat and/or tie. The circus certainly wouldn't need more than casual as you will see.

I'm probably showing my lack of breeding, but what exactly does the Opera House mean by "club casual dress"? What sort of club are we talking about here, exactly?

Hi Neil

I think it means "smart casual" no coat - no tie.

Leaving - on a jet plane - TODAY!!!!!

>>>>>>What sort of club are we talking about here, exactly?<<<<<<

I think the "club" part of the expression refers to a golf club or to a club that would have a dress code similar to a golf club's.

Here in our area (near wash DC) they refer to "country club casual" and some of the cruise lines are doing the same - "nice attire" No tux - no jacket - no tie.

I'm sorry for the confusion.
