Day Trips from Auckland
 

We will be visiting Auckland in the middle of May, and would appreciate any advise on things to do. Any suggestions on day trips? Also, what would the weather be like at this time of year?

You could do a day trip to waitamo caves or spend a day in auckland covering the major tourist attractions at a leisurely pace. Also worth a day trip to the beaches up the coast, but May will be already autumn. There could be much rain, but in between you could get beautiful sunny days in autumn.

Whilst we were in Auckland, we took the ferry to Devonport - about 10 minutes. Great views from the hill behind the town and lots of interesting shops and restaurants. Also views of Auckland returning to the city.

going to waitomo and back will take a full day. why not stop at the caves on your way to rotorua? we also went to devonport. nice view. nice ferry ride. cute, small town. not the best part of the trip, but easy to do in just a couple of hours.

There are also boat trips to islands in the harbour, such as Rangitoto, if you enjoy walking, or Waiheke further out - always a pleasant pastime.

To see Aucklands high spots take the <BR>explorer bus, info about that available <BR>at the Auckland airport. Also other <BR>bus trips out of Aucklnd, cant remember <BR>the name of the company that does this. <BR>It takes 2and a half hours to drive <BR>to Whangarei one way. Northland is a <BR>beautiful place to go especially if you <BR>follow Bay of islands around that <BR>coast. Take a scenic flight to <BR>Whangarei and return on same day. <BR>Also same sort of flights operate to <BR>Great Barrier, Rotorua.
