Darwin electrical appliances

Will USA electrical appliances work with the Darwin, Australia system? Specifically, should we take our curling irons, blow dryers, razors, etc. or do we ned to buy them there at K-mart, etc.?
Thanks.

Australia is 220/240v USA is 100/110v and the Australian 3 pin plug is different from USA too. Go to your local electrical store and ask for a voltage adapter suitable for Australia.
Unless of course your equipment states 100/240v on it then it will work possibly with the turn of a switch and all you need is a plug adaptor.
Australian plugs have 3 pins and the live and neutral are angled and spade shaped.
When I was in Oz I had to buy an electric shaver......I forgot the mains lead to mine...DUH !!

As Mucky says, we have a different plug and different voltage to the US. You can buy hairdryers with dual voltage which are handy if you travel a bit - just flick the switch before you switch it on. You would still need an adaptor plug which you can get at travel stores, K Mart etc (buy in the US as the plugs here are to adapt Aust appliances to US plug). If you do buy appliances here, you can pick up a hairdryer for less than A$20 and disposable razors for a few dollars. Some electric razors have inbuilt voltage switches that recognise what voltage you are plugged into.
Also, all of Australia has the same voltage and plugs so if you are visiting somewhere else here, the same rules apply.

No. They wont work for the reasons stated above. Don't bring them. Buy whatever you must have at the K-Mart when you get here, and cut down what you have to carry.
