Daintree River Ferry-Not op. Xmas?

Hi,
I think I have the answer, based on my research, but I want to make sure.

If we are going to go up to Cape Trib from PD in our rental car the only way to get there is by using the ferry crossing on the Daintree River. There are no bridges, correct?

If this is correct then I think that our plans for going up to Cape Trib have to be replanned as it looks like the Ferry does not operate on Christmas Day.

Could Pat woolford or any of the NQL posters let me know for sure if what I found is correct.

Cheers,
Pat

That is true about the Daintree Ferry being the only way to cross the river, apart from swimming (!) which I wouldn't recommend because there are crocodiles. The distance is not far, the ferry crossing takes about 5 mins. I would be very surprised if the ferry does not operate on Christmas Day, as there would be people living on either side of the river who would need to get across. As you say, someone who lives in the area would know. Good luck!

Topping to see if Pat Woolford or a local can answer.

Just spoke to Ted, the ferryman - he says at this stage they'll be running ferry for 3-4hours in morning (closing for 3-4 hours around lunch) on Christmas Day and 3-4 hours later in afternoon. He's still waiting to hear from shire council as the locals are trying to get the times extended but he hasn't been given them as yet.

Thanks Pat. You're an asset to this board. That will work well for us

I've just read in the local paper that the ferry hours on Christmas Day are from 6am to 10am, and from 6pm to 10pm. So, no service between 10am and 6pm.

Thanks Daff,
Now I know how to plan.
