Daintree Forest Tour Reco????
 

Can anyone suggest good tours/guides to see Daintree and Mossoman as a day trip in Dec around Christmas time? We like more personalized tours - so small tours or personal guides is preferred.

A very personalised and excellent tour is with Pete Baxendell who runs Heritage and Interpretive Tours. Trek North costs less and takes a maximum of 12, often less than that - if you go with Trek North ask for a day when either Tanya or Paul are guiding, they're both dedicated, highly knowledgeable and quite passionate about this magnificent part of Wet Tropics.

Thanks Pat as always. Have you heard/tried Dan Irby's Mangrove Tours? And how is the Rain Forest Habitat Wildlife Santuary? Have you heard of Daintree Rainforest Discovery Center or Cooper Creek Wilderness Tours

Hi Vacationer1 - yes, Dan Irby has been around for a long time and takes small and personalised boat tours around Daintree River and its mangrove systems. He doesn't pick up at accommodation, you'd need to meet him at Daintree Eco Lodge or Daintree River. Rainforest Habitat (just off Captain Cook highway on road to Port Douglas) is definitely worth a visit, its the best wildlife sanctuary in the north. It does have koalas, but doesn't allow cuddling, although you can have your photo taken with one sitting in its tree, not on you. You'll also see the Lumholtz tree kangaroo there. Cooper Creek is a magnificent area, with guided interpretive walking trips - Pete Baxendell would also include this if requested. The Daintree Discovery Centre has an aerial walkway and tower to give you a bird's eye view of the rainforest.

A great place to stay is Cape Tribulation Exotic Fruit Farm, where all types of rare and not-so-rare tropical fruits are grown. It's very small, so you'd need to book early.

Thanks Pat. My concern is we are trying to do Daintree on Dec 25th and everything seems closed. What are some options (other than GBR which we want to do earlier since we want to have a backup day becasue of the weather). Cooper Creek Wilderness Tour seem like they are open on Dec 25th - that's whay I was asking. Have you heard of them? Thoughts?

If you want a personalized tour to the Daintree, I totally agree with Pat. Pete is the one to go with. He operates on Dec. 25, if requested early enough. Most bigger tour companies don't run or with limited capacity. You book Pete as a private charter so you can incorporate anything you would like to see.
Cooper Creek is nice, but you stay on one private property. To get most out of your day, I would rather recommend a private tour. With a private tour you can actually go all the way up to Bloomfield if the track is open, you can go to secluded beaches and waterholes and create a day of your likening.
